Sometimes the smallest moments can feel unbearably heavy. When someone truly meets you there, the weight may lift just enough to feel your own pulse, your own breath, and the life quietly stirring underneath. Healing begins when you no longer have to hold your pain alone. I’m here to help you find your way back to yourself, and to what might become possible for you next.

Individual Counselling:
style of therapy
Who I Work Best With
You might feel anxious, overwhelmed, or numb, sometimes without fully understanding why. Maybe you notice yourself overthinking, overfunctioning, or feeling like you have to keep everything together, often at the cost of your own energy. You might struggle with people-pleasing, boundaries, or trusting your feelings, intuition, or body—leaving you unsure where you end and others start, or what is even yours to take responsibility for. Over time, these familiar cycles may leave you feeling drained, isolated, or like you’re moving through life on autopilot, out of touch with what you really need and stuck in survival mode.
I work best with people who are inquisitive, introspective, and ready to uncover what lies beneath their patterns. Many have faced complex relational or childhood trauma, abusive or coercive relationships, medical trauma, chronic illness, or long periods of stress that asked too much of them for too long. They tend to be emotionally sensitive and perceptive, and often used to handling things on their own, sometimes feeling a bit disconnected from themselves in the process. My clients are interested in therapy that moves beyond intellectual understanding and helps them experience themselves differently in daily life. My approach is most effective for those seeking self-discovery and reflection, rather than primarily skills-focused or directive strategies. I connect especially well with women and queer adults, though anyone drawn to this kind of work is welcome.

Area of focus
What it’s like to Work with Me
I work relationally and experientially, with a trauma- and violence-informed lens. That means noticing how your past experiences, relationships, and broader life context show up in your emotions, body, and patterns today. We start slowly, exploring your story and how your nervous system has learned to keep you safe, and the ways you’ve had to carry it on your own. I see your symptoms, defences, and parts as ways you’ve protected yourself, not as flaws, and we attend to them with curiosity and care. The intention isn’t to “fix” you, but to help you return to yourself, especially the parts that may have felt pushed aside, overburdened, or alone for a very long time.
Sessions are collaborative, rooted in what’s happening moment to moment: what you feel in your body, the thoughts or habitual responses, and the emotions beneath them. We gently delve into where these reactions come from, not just to understand them, but to meet them in a new way in everyday life. I also pay attention to what unfolds between us, which can offer subtle clues about how you’ve learned to relate to yourself and others. At times I may offer guidance, grounding tools, or psychoeducation, like a handrail on new ground, so the work feels held and in service of your goals. If certain experiences remain stuck or overwhelming, we may consider structured trauma-processing approaches such as EMDR, but only if it’s safe and truly supportive. You can expect warmth, attentiveness, and genuine human presence, with a touch of humour or playfulness when the moment allows. Gradually, people often sense their own rhythm again, reconnecting with their emotions, inner compass, and body—so life may begin to feel less like something you have to brace against, and more like something you can finally be present for.

The human behind the therapist
Outside the therapy room, I try to fill my days with curiosity, small joys, and a little bit of play. Music has always been part of me, and you might catch me singing along to a favourite song, tinkering on an instrument, or losing myself in an album with a cup of coffee in hand. Lately, I’ve been dancing again, which makes my inner theatre kid very happy. I’m completely obsessed with dogs, and my terrier mix, Goose, sometimes pops into the office for a cameo. My neurodivergent brain loves chasing whatever sparks interest, whether it’s reading, writing, journalling, podcasts, arts and culture, or noticing the magic in everyday moments. Learning and discovering new things isn’t just a hobby; it’s part of how I stay inspired and grounded.
My passion for this work is deeply personal. Having lived through complex trauma, gender-based violence, mental health struggles, and chronic illness, I know how powerful it can feel to be truly seen and emotionally met. That’s what I try to bring to the people I work with, and why I believe change is always possible, even if hope has felt distant or out of reach. Whatever you're facing, together, we can find a path forward.

My Experience & Training
I’m a Registered Clinical Counsellor in British Columbia and in good standing with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (#21923). I hold a master’s degree in counselling psychology from Adler University, where my studies focused on the connection between trauma, the body, and emotional healing. I’m also trained in EMDR and OEI (Level 1), and I’m currently pursuing training in AEDP.
Like healing, I see being a therapist as a journey that never really ends. I’m always learning, growing, and exploring ways to deepen my understanding, whether through workshops, consultation, studying areas that inspire me, or seeing my own therapist. All of this helps me show up in a way that might allow people to feel known and accepted for the messy, beautiful, and ordinary moments that make them who they are—sometimes for the very first time.
Before becoming a therapist, I worked in marketing and communications, non-profit development, and community engagement. These experiences, along with over 10 years volunteering with organizations supporting women impacted by complex trauma and gender-based violence, continue to shape the perspective and care I bring to my work.

Continuing Education:
about me
Hi! I’m Andrea (she/her), a Registered Clinical Counsellor at Providence Therapy. I’m so glad you’re here!
Do you feel stuck, overwhelmed, down, or disconnected?
Is there a critical voice in your head that takes up too much space?
Are you caught up in unhelpful patterns that you can’t seem to break?
It’s no secret that life can be painful, messy, and challenging. Maybe you find yourself struggling to navigate the hardships you’re facing, or maybe survival mode is all you’ve ever known. Whatever you’re going through, you don’t need to carry it alone.
You are biologically wired for change and healing. As a counsellor, my goal is to help you dismantle painful stories and reconnect with your inner wisdom and strength, which often get lost or buried due to trauma. Using an integrative, collaborative, and strengths-based approach, I’ll draw from several therapeutic models to tailor a treatment plan for your needs. I’ll always look to you as the expert of your life and create a safe, comfortable space where you can be real, raw, and free from judgment. You can expect a warm, authentic, and compassionate style, someone who’ll be in your corner throughout our time together. I’m not a blank slate therapist. I bring my whole self to the room, actively engaging in the process with you.
Your experiences matter, and I’d be honoured to hear them. Together, we’ll embark on a journey to return to your true, authentic self. My hope is that you’d feel seen and supported as you explore your inner world, leaving with a deeper sense of trust in yourself and what’s possible for your future.
I’m a Registered Clinical Counsellor in good standing with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (RCC #21923). I have a Master of Counselling Psychology from Adler University, where I focused my studies on mind-body approaches to trauma and mental health recovery.
Before becoming a therapist, I worked in marketing and communications, non-profit development, and community engagement in my previous career. I’ve also spent the last 10+ years volunteering with mental health and charitable organizations that support women who’ve survived complex trauma and gender-based violence.
Ever since I was young I knew I wanted to help others flourish and thrive. My passion for this field – and the power of the therapeutic relationship – stems from my own journey as a client. Exploring my lived experiences of complex trauma and gender-based violence, mental health challenges, and chronic pain/illness in a safe and caring presence has shown me that hope and healing are within reach.
I wholeheartedly believe they’re possible for you, too.
I work with adult (19+) individuals from diverse backgrounds. While I welcome a variety of concerns, I’m especially passionate about supporting people in the following areas:
In addition to my master’s degree, I’m formally trained in Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR), Observed & Experiential Integration (OEI) – Level 1, and narrative therapy. I also incorporate parts work, somatic therapy, and mindful self-compassion.
Being a counsellor is more than a profession — it's a lifelong practice of learning and growth. Ongoing education keeps my work grounded and responsive. Here are some recent trainings I’ve completed:
Music’s always been a big part of my life. When I need to unwind, you can often find me singing, sitting down with an instrument, or listening to a good album with a coffee in hand. Lately, I’ve been reconnecting with my love of dance, something that’s made this former theatre kid very happy. I’m also completely obsessed with dogs and my terrier mix, Goose, may join me in the office from time to time.
Now that you know a bit about me, I’d love to get to know you! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out and book a 20-minute phone consultation. I’d be happy to connect so you can decide whether I’m the right counsellor for you.
I look forward to meeting you!
