Therapeutic Pet Support

Overview

While our therapeutic pets are not service dogs, we have witnessed the profound impact their presence has on our clients. As passionate advocates for the well-being of animals, we understand the profound ways in which animals can enhance our lives. Drawing from our own love for dogs and their innate ability to provide comfort and support, we have made it a central focus to incorporate the therapeutic use of animals in our offices. We believe that the unspoken connection established by therapy dogs fosters remarkable healing experiences for our clients. The invaluable role of therapy dogs in supporting our clients' well-being is evident through the numerous benefits they bring to our clinic.

Our Approach

Introducing Therapeutic Pet Support at Providence Therapy

We are thrilled to introduce Therapeutic Pet Support as a part of our comprehensive treatment options, featuring our office dogs Kona the Golden Doodle, Dr. Watson the Golden Retriever, and occasionally their other furry friends!

At Providence Therapy, our team values the profoundly positive impact that animals have on emotional well-being, and we have integrated them into our practice to provide a unique therapeutic experience.

During your therapy sessions, you may have the opportunity to interact with animals such as Kona or Dr. Watson. While these animals are not registered service animals, they are well-trained and well-behaved companions, present to offer comfort, support, and companionship throughout your therapeutic journey. It's important to note that although they may sometimes behave more like dogs than therapists, we have observed tremendous benefits that far outweigh any potential disruptions.

The benefits of Therapeutic Pet Support are wide-ranging and include

Emotional Support:

Animals offer unconditional love, creating a safe space for clients to explore their emotions and vulnerabilities.

Stress Reduction:

Interacting with animals has been shown to reduce stress levels, promote relaxation, and aid in emotional regulation.

Increased Socialization:

Animals can help improve social skills and promote trust and connection with others.

Enhanced Communication:

Animals provide a non-judgmental presence, allowing clients to express themselves more openly and effectively.

Mood Elevation:

The presence of animals often brings joy, laughter, and positive emotions, fostering an uplifted mood and increased overall well-being.

Therapeutic Pet Support can benefit a wide range of individuals, including children and adolescents experiencing anxiety or trauma, individuals with mental health conditions, and survivors of trauma.

While our therapeutic pets are trained and well-behaved, they are still animals and may exhibit typical dog-like behaviors during sessions. It's important to understand that they are not acting as therapists, but rather as supportive companions on your healing journey. The remarkable benefits they bring far outweigh any minor disruptions that may occur. If you have concerns about having a therapeutic pet in your session, please let us know.

If you are interested in incorporating Therapeutic Pets into your counseling sessions at Providence Therapy, please feel free to contact us. Our team will be happy to discuss this option, answer any questions you may have, and determine if it aligns with your therapeutic goals.

We are eager to support you on your path to healing, with the assistance of our incredible therapeutic pets!
