LENS Low Energy Neurofeedback

Your brain has been working hard. LENS helps it finally catch a breath.

Something Feels Off and You Can't Quite Name It

Sometimes the brain gets stuck. Not because of a lack of effort or willpower, but because the underlying patterns of neural communication have fallen out of sync. This can show up as chronic anxiety, difficulty concentrating, emotional dysregulation, sleep problems, persistent fatigue, or a general sense that your brain just is not performing the way it used to. You have likely tried things. You may have talked about it plenty. And yet something in the system keeps pulling you back to the same patterns, because the brain itself has not had the chance to reset.

‍

LENS, the Low Energy Neurofeedback System, is a gentle, non-invasive neurotherapy designed to do exactly that. Unlike traditional neurofeedback, which requires active engagement from the client, LENS works by delivering extremely low-energy electromagnetic signals back to the brain based on its own real-time electrical activity. The brain receives this feedback and begins to dis-entrain from stuck or unhealthy patterns, creating space for more flexible, regulated functioning. Many people are surprised by how much shifts with relatively little effort required on their part.

LENS at Providence: Precise, Gentle, and Clinician-Led

At Providence, LENS begins with a thorough assessment before any treatment starts. Your clinician will review your history, symptoms, and goals to understand where your brain may be struggling and what a targeted LENS protocol might look like for you. This is not a cookie-cutter approach. The LENS system maps and responds to your brain's unique activity, and your clinician adjusts the protocol as your system responds and shifts over time.

During a LENS session, small sensors are placed comfortably on your scalp to measure brainwave activity. The LENS software processes this data and delivers gentle feedback signals that encourage the brain toward greater balance and self-regulation. Sessions are typically brief, and most clients find them relaxing, though what you notice afterward is often where the real shifts become apparent. LENS works well as a standalone neurotherapy intervention and also integrates effectively alongside trauma-focused therapy, making it a flexible option whether you are already engaged in therapeutic work or looking for a brain-based starting point on its own.

LENS Frequently Asked Questions

What makes LENS different from traditional neurofeedback?

Traditional EEG neurofeedback requires the client to actively engage, usually watching a screen or listening for audio cues, while the brain learns to shift its own patterns over time. LENS takes a more passive approach. It reads your brainwave activity in real time and delivers very low-energy electromagnetic feedback signals that gently prompt the brain to release stuck patterns on its own. Sessions are often shorter and require no active effort from the client, which makes it a particularly good fit for people who find active training difficult to sustain.

What does a LENS assessment involve, and what does it cost?

Before beginning LENS treatment, every client at Providence completes an initial assessment. This gives your clinician a thorough clinical picture of your history, presenting symptoms, and nervous system functioning, and helps determine whether LENS is a good fit and how to structure your treatment protocol. The initial LENS assessment is $225. From there, your clinician will recommend a treatment approach based on your needs, which may include head, body, or extended lens applications.

What are the treatment session options and pricing?

LENS treatment at Providence is offered in three formats depending on your clinician's recommendations and your treatment goals. Head LENS and Brief Body LENS sessions are up to 30 minutes and cost $125. Extended Head LENS and Short Body LENS sessions run 30 to 40 minutes and cost $187. Full Body LENS sessions are 50 minutes and cost $210. Packages are available for those completing a longer course of treatment, which can offer meaningful savings over time.

Can LENS be used alongside my existing therapy?

Absolutely, and for many clients this combination is particularly effective. LENS can help create a more regulated neurological baseline that supports the deeper processing work happening in trauma-focused or other therapeutic approaches. It can also serve as a standalone entry point for clients who are not currently in therapy but are looking for a brain-based approach to their symptoms. Your clinician can help you figure out which starting point makes the most sense for you.

Will I feel anything during a LENS session?

Most clients do not feel the electromagnetic signals during the session itself, as they are extremely low in energy. You will simply be seated comfortably with sensors on your scalp while the system does its work. Some people notice a sense of calm or slight tiredness during or immediately after a session. Others notice nothing in the moment but observe shifts in sleep, mood, or mental clarity in the days that follow.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions varies depending on the individual and what you are working on. Some people notice meaningful changes within just a few sessions. Others benefit from a longer course of treatment to achieve lasting results. Your clinician will help you track your progress and adjust the protocol over time. Packages are available for those committing to a full program.

Is LENS safe?

Yes. LENS is a non-invasive, low-risk intervention that has been used clinically for decades. The electromagnetic signals used are far below any threshold of concern and the system is designed to work with the brain's own activity rather than imposing anything externally. As with all neurotherapy, pacing and proper clinical oversight matter, and your clinician at Providence will monitor your responses and adjust accordingly throughout your program.
