One person. One therapist. One session that is entirely set aside for you.
why you might be here
You might be carrying something that has been with you for a long time: a pattern that keeps repeating, a heaviness that does not seem to lift, or the quiet sense that the way you are moving through your life is not quite aligned with who you actually want to be. Perhaps something specific happened, and you have not had the right space to process it. Perhaps nothing dramatic occurred at all, and yet something feels persistently off, in your relationships, in your sense of self, in your capacity to feel genuinely well. You may have tried to manage it on your own, talked to people you trust, or simply pushed through, and have arrived at a point where you know you need something more. Something dedicated. Something that is entirely yours.
You might also be here because a particular experience or set of experiences has shaped you in ways that are now showing up in your daily life, in how you relate to others, how you feel in your body, how you respond to stress, or how you see yourself. Whether you are navigating trauma, anxiety, burnout, grief, relational pain, or simply the complexity of being a human being in a demanding world, individual therapy at Providence offers a space that is built entirely around you. Not a formula. Not a one-size-fits-all approach. A carefully crafted, deeply personalized experience of being genuinely met.
how therapy helps
Individual therapy at Providence is not a generic service. It is a clinically sophisticated, deeply human, and genuinely individualized process, shaped by your specific history, your nervous system, your goals, and the therapeutic approaches that are the right fit for your unique presentation. Our team draws from a wide range of evidence-based, trauma-informed, and experiential modalities, including EMDR, OEI, IFS and parts-based approaches, somatic and polyvagal-informed therapy, DBR, attachment-based work, and many more, weaving them together into a personalized treatment framework that addresses the root of what you are navigating rather than simply managing its surface expressions.
What distinguishes individual therapy at Providence is the depth and integration of our clinical approach. We are not a high-volume clinic offering standardized care. We are a small, specialized team of trauma-focused, experientially trained clinicians who take the time to genuinely understand each client, build a treatment plan that reflects their complexity, and show up with full presence and skill in every session. We also believe strongly that the therapeutic relationship itself is one of the most powerful vehicles for healing, and we work hard to ensure that every client feels not just clinically supported but genuinely seen. At Providence, individual therapy is where your healing begins and where the most meaningful work of your life can take place.

A clearer, more compassionate understanding of yourself: your patterns, your history, and why you respond to life the way you do
Meaningful relief from the symptoms, struggles, or patterns that brought you to therapy in the first place
A more regulated, settled nervous system and a greater capacity to tolerate and move through difficult emotional experiences
Processed trauma that no longer holds the same charge, so that the past feels genuinely like the past rather than something still running your present
Healthier, more fulfilling relationships, as the internal shifts made in individual therapy ripple outward into how you connect with others
A stronger, more grounded sense of identity and self-worth that does not depend on external circumstances or other people's approval
Practical tools and skills for navigating stress, regulating emotion, and meeting your own needs with greater confidence and care
A genuinely different relationship with your own inner world, one characterized by curiosity and self-compassion rather than self-criticism and avoidance
A life that feels more fully yours: more aligned with your values, more connected to what matters, and more capable of the joy and meaning you came here for
If you are experiencing emotional distress, recurring patterns that feel difficult to shift, the effects of past trauma, anxiety, low mood, relational challenges, or simply the sense that something needs to change, individual therapy is very likely a meaningful next step. You do not need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Many of our clients come to us not because they are falling apart but because they want to grow, understand themselves more deeply, or address something that has been quietly limiting them for a long time.
Your first session is focused on connection and context rather than deep processing. Your therapist will take time to get to know you, understand what brings you in, and begin to build a picture of your history, your goals, and what you are hoping therapy will make possible. It is a collaborative conversation, not an assessment or interview, and you are always in control of what you share and at what pace. The first session is also an opportunity for you to get a sense of your therapist and the way they work, and to ask any questions you might have before the work begins.
For most clients, weekly sessions are the most effective starting point. Consistency is important, particularly in the early stages of therapy, as it builds the relational safety and momentum that make deeper work possible. As you progress, the frequency of sessions may naturally shift to reflect where you are in the process. Your therapist will work with you collaboratively to find a rhythm that fits both your therapeutic needs and your life circumstances.
This varies considerably depending on what you are working on, how complex your history is, and what your goals are. Some clients work toward a specific and relatively contained goal and complete their therapy within a few months. Others are navigating deeper, longer-standing patterns or complex trauma, and benefit from a longer course of work that unfolds gradually over time. At Providence, we do not operate from a fixed timeline, but we also don't aim to see you forever! We work at the pace that is right for you, review progress regularly, and are always transparent about how the work is unfolding and where we are headed. We will be here as long as you need, but our ultimate goal is that you feel so good, you no longer need us!
We offer both. Many of our clients attend sessions remotely via secure video, and find it equally effective and considerably more convenient. In-person sessions are available at our Vancouver clinic for clients who prefer or benefit from face-to-face contact. Some clients alternate between formats depending on their schedule and preference. If you are unsure which format is right for you, we are happy to discuss it during your discovery call.
A previous experience of therapy that did not quite land is one of the most common things we hear from new clients, and it almost never means that therapy itself cannot help you. More often, it means the fit was not quite right: the approach was not suited to your specific presentation, the therapeutic relationship did not have the right quality of safety or attunement, or the modalities used did not reach the level where the real work needed to happen. At Providence, we take referral and matching seriously, and we work from a depth-oriented, integrative framework that goes beyond what many conventional therapy settings offer. If previous therapy has not been enough, we would genuinely love the chance to show you what is possible.
