about me
Hi, I'm Christen, a Registered Clinical Counsellor, educator, and founder of Providence Therapy. Relationships, connection, and the safety that lives in true belonging - within ourselves and with the people around us - have been some of the most formative threads of my own lived experience and healing, and they are the driving heart of the work I do. I approach therapy with both a deeply personal and relational presence and a strong neuroscience-informed foundation, believing wholeheartedly that lasting healing emerges where genuine human connection and evidence-based care meet. I'm really glad you found your way here.

Who I Work Best With
You might be someone who has been carrying something heavy for a long time - chronic anxiety, a bone-deep exhaustion, or the quiet ache of relational wounds you can't quite name. Maybe you've found yourself walking on eggshells in relationships, over-functioning and struggling to trust others or yourself, or wondering why connection feels so hard even when you want it so badly. Perhaps you've tried therapy before, and it didn't quite land, or this is your first time considering reaching out at all.
I work best with individuals who are ready to go beneath the surface, people who sense there's more to their experience than what's visible, and who are open to an approach that goes beyond traditional talk therapy. My clients often come in navigating the aftermath of complex relational trauma, narcissistic abuse, or a prolonged season of burnout, and they tend to be thoughtful, highly attuned, and self-aware individuals who want to understand themselves more deeply while building more meaningful, healthy lives. If you're looking for something that honours both your story and your nervous system, you may be in the right place.

What it’s like to Work with Me
Working with me tends to feel like a combination of depth and warmth, safe enough to go to the hard places, but never without some lightness and humour woven in along the way. My approach is experiential, multimodal, and intentionally unconventional. We'll begin with your story, because your history holds important clues about how your nervous system has uniquely adapted to get you here, and that matters deeply! From there, our work will be guided by both the science of how your brain and body have responded to your experiences and by what genuinely feels most relevant and meaningful to you.
I believe therapy works best when there is a real, authentic connection between therapist and client, so you won't find a blank-screen therapist here. I bring a genuinely relational and present style to our sessions, which may include thoughtful therapeutic self-disclosure when it serves the work. My goal is to create a space where you feel truly seen, and where the healing relationship itself becomes part of the medicine. Sessions are collaborative by design: together we'll build a personalized, structured, yet flexible framework, drawing from a range of experiential evidence-based modalities, each chosen with intention to address the root of what you're facing.

The human behind the therapist
Outside of the therapy room, I'm a lifelong learner who is almost always midway through several books or trainings at once, a music enthusiast, and an avid world traveller with a long bucket list of places to explore next! In recent years, I've also fallen hard for the craft of ceramics as a creative outlet; on my days off, you'll likely find me covered in clay, working on a new project. My core values of curiosity and kindness don't just shape my clinical work; they guide how I try to show up in all areas of my life, imperfectly and with a lot of grace and self-compassion.
I also happen to be a professional dog lover. My wacky and sweet Goldendoodle, Kona, is a regular presence in the office and available for therapeutic snuggles on the days I'm in. And if the world ever got to a place where everyone was fully healed and thriving, and therapy was simply no longer needed? Well, I'd probably open a small coffee/ flower shop in a very quiet town surrounded by animals, work part-time as a ceramics artist, and call it a very good life! But until then, I just love what I do, and the clients I work with!

My Experience & Training
I'm a dedicated trauma-responsive registered clinical counsellor (RCC) with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors, with over 8 years of clinical experience supporting individuals through complex mental health challenges, relational trauma, and nervous system dysregulation. I hold the credentials of a Certified EMDR Therapist & Consultant, an OEI Master Trainer, a Certified TRE Provider, a Certified Narcissistic Abuse Treatment Clinician (NATC) and a Certified Integrative Mental Health Professional (CIMHP). As a therapist, I truly believe there's no one-size-fits-all approach; different challenges call for different tools, and the therapeutic relationship itself is always central to the work.

Shared experience can be a powerful therapeutic tool. My therapeutic style often includes the integration of therapeutic self-disclosure that allows a more personal and relational connection to form. In both my personal and professional life, I prioritize values such as kindness, compassion, empathy, integrity, curiosity and respect. I am also a professional dog lover and my Goldendoodle Kona is often present with me in the office on days I’m working.
Beyond Therapy I am a lifelong learner and enjoy exploring the world with my friends and husband. Music is a long standing passion of mine and I try to incorporate it into my life whenever possible. Recently, I've also discovered the joy of pottery hand-building as a creative outlet and have loved exploring these aspect of my creative parts!
