about me
Hi! I’m Sun (they/them) - Registered Clinical Counsellor and Art Therapist at Providence Therapy.
Formal Training:
Informal/Adjunct Training:
Looking back, I realize I’ve been studying people my whole life. As an autistic kid, I didn’t always understand social rules the way others seemed to, but I was endlessly curious about human psychology—why people act the way they do, what drives them, and how stories shape us. “Lore” became my special interest, whether it was the lore of fantasy worlds or the unwritten lore of human behavior.
Even then, people would often come to me for advice, even if we weren’t exactly friends. I think they sensed that I noticed things others missed and could offer a different perspective. That curiosity and insight eventually grew into a career where I get to do what I’ve always been drawn to: understanding people deeply and helping them find new ways of understanding themselves.
As a queer, non-binary person of colour, I also bring lived experience of navigating identity, belonging, and resilience. These intersections shape how I practice and how I create space for clients—so they can feel fully seen and supported in their own journeys.
Many of the clients I see are highly introspective and self-aware, yet still feel stuck when it comes to living in ways that feel sustainable and compatible with who they are. They may be navigating CPTSD, anxiety, OCD, neurodivergence, family or cultural expectations, intimacy struggles, or questions of gender and sexuality.
In sessions, I focus on helping clients reframe long-standing struggles, uncover new perspectives, and create practical shifts that align more closely with the lives they want to lead. My work is collaborative and strengths-based, guided by the values of self-acceptance, compassion, and curiosity.
I draw from Adlerian Therapy, Expressive Arts Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) in my formal training, while also weaving in influences from Gestalt Therapy, IFS, and phenomenological approaches to art therapy. My hope is that clients leave therapy not only with insight but also with a renewed sense of ease, creativity, and possibility in their lives.
I hold a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology and am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors. I am also trained in Expressive Arts Therapy.
In addition to Phenomenological Art Therapy and ACT, I continue to pursue professional development in Internal Family Systems, Trauma-informed practices, art-based interventions, and relational approaches that support neurodivergent, queer, and immigrant clients.
When I’m not in session, I’m usually elbows-deep in one of my many hobbies - painting, crafting, tabletop RPGs, video games, reading fanfics and webtoons, etc. I tend to collect hobbies the way some people collect plants: enthusiastically, a little chaotically, and with varying survival rates.
